Here's the statue of Poseidon in the
center square at Shelter Cove, where Shannon Tanner holds
forth, and where the young folks gather. All around this
delightful spot you'll find many shops, good places to eat,
and lots of people, both young and not-so-young! The kids can take a walk along the harbor
just to the left of this scene and stare wide-eyed at the
many fabulous yachts berthed in the beautiful
marina. For a family outing, enjoy a day at the
WaterFun park, or explore the many acres of Forest Preserves
on the Island. Miniature golf is a favorite, and Hilton Head
has several courses sure please everyone. You can also enjoy
the miles of bike trails while rollerblading or biking with
your family. The true family favorite is the beach, and
beachgoers are often treated to offshore dolphin displays as
fine as those seen from the "dolphin watch" charter boats.
The picture to the left was snapped from the boat while
dolphin watching in Broad Creek, in the center of Hilton
Head Island.

There is truly a variety of children's activities to choose
from. There is a recreation center on the island for those
rainy days that occasionally occur. The library is a short
distance from Palmetto Dunes, just off 278. There are great
"young golfer" programs with reduced rates for the young
golfers who go out in the afternoon. Tennis programs and
clinics abound with some of the best instruction anywhere.
Ledgendary Miniature Golf offers golf all day on their two
courses for about $10.00 a day. Blockbuster's has a large
video rental store across from Wexford Plantation; we and
the kids often use this nearby resource as a conclusion to
our active days.
